View Article  Speed Limits

Speed limits

You MUST NOT exceed the maximum speed limits for the road and for your vehicle (see the table above). The presence of street lights generally means that there is a 30 mph (48 km/h) speed limit unless otherwise specified.

The speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed irrespective of conditions. Driving at speeds too fast for the road and traffic conditions is dangerous. You should always reduce your speed when

·         the road layout or condition presents hazards, such as bends

·         sharing the road with pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, particularly children, and motorcyclists

·         weather conditions make it safer to do so

·         driving at night as it is more difficult to see other road users

Stopping Distances. Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear. You should

·         leave enough space between you and the vehicle in front so that you can pull up safely if it suddenly slows down or stops. The safe rule is never to get closer than the overall stopping distance (see Typical Stopping Distances PDF below)

·         allow at least a two-second gap between you and the vehicle in front on roads carrying faster-moving traffic and in tunnels where visibility is reduced. The gap should be at least doubled on wet roads and increased still further on icy roads

·         remember, large vehicles and motorcycles need a greater distance to stop. If driving a large vehicle in a tunnel, you should allow a four-second gap between you and the vehicle in front

If you have to stop in a tunnel, leave at least a 5-metre gap between you and the vehicle in front.

Yateley is a relatively affluent town. Approximately 75% of residents are in the ABC1 social class category. It had a population of 15,663 according to the 2001census. Yateley's northern border is the River Blackwater around the Yateley Lakes (including Trilakes Country Park). Its southern border is the A30 national route, lined by Yateley Common and Blackbushe Airport. It lies some 35 miles (56 km) west-south-west of London and 15 miles (24 km) south of Reading.

Yateley is a residential area with local businesses and light service industries. The B3272 Reading Road acts as the town's main business link, with numerous shops and other businesses located along this road. The area around St Peter's church, the Dog & Patrridge public house and the village green is still referred to as 'the village'. Yateley Green is a larger open area slightly to the west where there are tennis courts, a playground, council offices and 'The Tythings' bar and social venue, home of the Yateley Cricket Club. The Blackwater Valley golf course is in Chandlers Lane. There are several traditional public houses, besides the Dog & Partridge: the White Lion, the Royal Oak, the Cricketers, the Anchor and Monteagle Arms (formerly Poets' Corner, formerly the Monteagle Arms, formerly still Lanes). Yateley and District Lions are based in the town.

Blue School of Motoring in Reading. Learn to Drive in Woodley

Blue School of Motoring has been teaching students to learn to drive in Woodley

for several years.

Learning to drive in the Woodleyarea is a great experience with a Blue School of Motoring instructor. The local area roads can be a demanding experience for the novice driver, especially with so much work being carried out in the Woodleyarea. With new building work going on near the town centre, there are always plenty of road works to contend with, especially the Black Boy Roundabout, which is on the Reading practical test route. Learn to drive in Woodley with the experts.

There are some challenging driving conditions in Woodley, but if you have had some professional guidance from one of our Woodley Driving Instructors you won’t have any trouble. The Black Boy roundabout is very straightforward if approached in the correct lane, and there are various other routes to take if there is a game playing at the Madejski Stadium.  The roads around Whitley can become very congested, and as this is a favourite place to be taken for your practical driving test, our Woodley Driving Instructors can show you the most common routes, and also cover you’re manoeuvres at the same time.

Town centre driving lessons are also covered, dealing with the Oracle, and if you like how to do some bay parking, and of course dual carriageway driving around the IDR(Inner Distribution Road). So learning to drive in Woodley is so much easier with a Blue Driving Instructor.

Your Woodley Driving Instructor will provide the complete training course that will help you to achieve the required standard to pass the Driving Standards Agency theory and driving tests.  Learning to drive in Reading with us, will give the learner driver a better understanding of how to cope with changes in the local area.
